Chelsea’s Light Foundation prepares an annual Chelsea’s Law Impact Report to examine the number and nature of sex crimes against children being prosecuted as a result of Chelsea’s Law (AB1844). The first report, issued in September 2011, included information on such prosecutions in San Diego County, which encompasses a population of approximately 3.1 million; the second report, issued in October 2012, expanded its scope to include prosecution statistics as a result of Chelsea’s Law in both San Diego and Orange counties, which combined are home to more than 6.1 million residents. This 2013 Impact Report has expanded its scope again to include information from San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties. The overall population for these counties is in excess of 16 million.
We want to thank the District Attorney’s offices of San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, and Riverside Counties for providing the data used to compile these reports and the University of San Diego Law School’s Children’s Advocacy Institute for creating the 2013 Chelsea’s Law Impact Report.
