In order to end sexual violence against children, we all must do our part
Objective: To increase awareness, engagement, prevention and pass legislation to protect children from Child Sexual Assault (CSA).
Goal: A cultural shift is needed to end CSA and action from the public is key. It has to involve everyone. To do this Chelsea’s Light and partners across the nation will keep CSA in the forefront of people’s thoughts, agendas, and discussions in such a powerful way that we ensure all children grow up safe and free from all forms of sexual harm.
Reality: One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused by the age of eighteen, according to the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study, from the CDC and Kaiser Permanente in San Diego. ACEs linked to sexual abuse have a range of health impacts such as ischemic heart/liver/obstructive disease, mental health disorders, addictions and other quality of life issues. It is also estimated that each year CSA has a national price tag of around $23 billion due to our burdened criminal justice, healthcare, and welfare systems.
We invite you take action with Chelsea’s Light and our national partners:
- Join the conversation and inspire people into action. Please circulate our posts on Facebook and Twitter. If we all share – this issue will start to trend!
- We also want to share information about other efforts to prevent/end CSA. We need statistics, resources & talking points. When provided with this content we will post & recognize your organization for your amazing work!
- Take a minute to email your Congress member to support the Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Act, that educates children on sexual abuse.
