Katie Wrieden’s voice resonates. At Helix Charter High School, she was lead actress in Twelfth Night, delivered eloquent speeches on the speech and debate team, and advocated for her peers as a member of the La Mesa Youth Commission. She took her talents beyond entertaining an audience or speaking up for peers. In response to the 9/11 tragedy, Katie’s voice became one of comfort and compassion at a candlelight vigil she organized, raising thousands of dollars for victims. She took it a step further by writing support letters to New York City fire stations. Katie’s voice is growing in scope at Seattle University. Pursuing a double major in anthropology and film, she hopes to become a documentary filmmaker to “speak” for those who are overlooked.
Words I live by-
“The world promises us that freedom exists, and with effort, it can belong to all of us.”
