Dr. Kristine (Kristi) Burtis, has been close to Chelsea’s Light from day one, being married to one of the special agents helping with the case and supporting him through many sleepless nights. Kristi continued her support of the Chelsea’s Light Foundation through participating and raising awareness about Finish Chelsea’s Run and even volunteering her time to review essays submitted for the Sunflower Scholarship.
We are recognizing Kristi for being a Changemaker, not just for her participation with the Chelsea’s Light Foundation, but for her work and dedication to Animal Welfare, something near and dear to Chelsea, as well as being a role model for all young women.
Kristi has worked her way through school while working full-time and receiving support from SeaWorld.
Kristi started working in the parking lot, spent countless hours being a member of the SeaWorld Animal Rescue Team, including nurturing J.J., twenty one years ago, and for the past several years working with the Orca’s, educating the public and assigned to a special global project.
Kristi never stopped learning, she completed her Associates degree, Vet Tech School, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and was just awarded her Doctorate degree in Management with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership.
In addition to her studies, she has dedicated several years to applying her real world experience with her academic background and has taught the Psychology of Learning for the San Diego Community College District. Changing the lives of learners from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
