As we enter the last full month of summer we focus our gratitude on yet another Changemaker of the Month. This month’s worthy recipient is none other than Carlsbad’s Callie Hernandez. This kind young soul is entering Carlsbad High School next month as a Freshman, loves to play lacrosse and perform in musical theater. In addition to her work for CLF, Callie has been a Girl Scout for 9 years and is currently working toward her gold award.
Let’s hear more about her CLF experience in her own words.
CLF: How did you get involved with CLF?
CH: Tom Rhee invited our Girl Scout troop to come help at CLF sponsored baseball games. When I was in 6th grade my troop ended up volunteering to help at a CLF baseball tournament.
CLF: How many years have you been involved with CLF?
CH: I have been involved in the CLF for 3 years and it’s a great opportunity to support CLF and to connect with your community in a positive way.
CLF: What do you like best about Chelsea/CLF?
CH: I enjoy CLF because you are helping the community and at the same time people are having fun and connecting with others.
CLF: What do you do/done for CLF?
CH: In the past my Girl Scout troop and I have participated in volunteering at baseball games and every year I join with my friends to run the 5k at Balboa Park.
CLF: What is your vision of CLF 5 years from now?
CH: I hope that the CLF can grow and more people can eventually join, it is such a great organization and everyone always has had a great time participating in all events.
CLF: Any last thoughts about the organization?
CH: CLF is a fun organization for all ages and it is a great way to give back to the community.
We cannot thank you enough Callie Hernandez and we wish you all the best at CHS! Something tells us your changemaking has just begun!
