High School: The Preuss School UCSD
College: UC San Diego
Living in a world where stereotype and pre-judgment can sometimes seem the norm, Amanda Tang has witnessed first-hand how these negative attitudes can adversely affect individuals. So when she encounters such a situation, Amara does what comes naturally to her; she puts her hand out and offers her compassionate spirit and empathy. As President of The Preuss School’s Interact club, she led Skype conferences between American students of the program and their Afghan counterparts. Not only did it transform Amara into a global citizen with a better understanding of the world outside the United States, but it lead her to eventually major in Urban Studies and Planning with a minor in Business at UCSD. A real dynamo, Amara founded her school’s hip hop dance team, captained her varsity girls Lacrosse team, and now at UCSD she says her Triton pride is contagious.
